see ya!

Ponntiac, part of GM, looks like it's going to be the first to get the Axe.

Story here

Problem: GM has way too many brands. They all use the same platforms for their cars, so they're making the same crappy cars with minor face lifts. It's sad but i think this has to happen. Hopefully they'll focus more on making one quality car in each class, than making a fistful of half-ass copy cat rental cars.

food friday!

well here's a back blog of some food that we've cooked.

Lotte has a new location in Chantilly. What's Lotte? It's an international supermarket, filled with everything you need to recreate that asian dish your mom makes, that you've been craving but you won't drive 3 hours home just for some kare-kare. there's also alot of things in there that will make you say "wtf!" "is that legal" or "i'm gonna die if i eat this."

last friday...i think we were supposed to fast last friday...but anyways, ape had a craving for crabs. so we ventured to lotte cause we heard that blue crabs were mad cheap, like $1.50 a pound. we scooped up some crabs, like 6 for $2.25, and since i can't eat crabs anymore i checked out what else was in the fish section. man they had every damn fish that you could imagine. they butterfly it, de-gut, de-scale, decapitate...however you want it they do it. i didn't want to stink up the apt so i just got a slab of fresh mahi mahi.

we also picked up some sushi and seaweed salad. both were really cheap. con, if you need help and have to ask an employee a question, good luck in getting a response that sounds anything close to engrish. this was probably the first time i asked an asian man a question, which was answered by a spanish speaking employee, that i could understand.

anyways here's some food.
seaweed salad. spicy tuna. i pan seared the mahi mahi. wasted down with Kirin Ichiban Beer.

ape's steamed crabs.

Also, i finally made french toast a couple weekends ago too. delish!

hi hater...question.

wedding season is about to start and i know i'm going to see a handful of this. this really bugs the shet out of me. i know some of you think it's the coolest thing ever but i ask....why the hell would you get suited up, all formal and classy, then decide to throw on some kicks? i know your nike blazers, jordans, dunks, or even vans might be the hottest thing right now and match your attire perfectly but wtf??? i totally think sneaks have no place in or around a wedding or formal event. with the exception of a hip hop dance or if the bridal party decides to do it, but i still think it's tacky.

i just think it's kinda disrespectful to the host. they've shelled out tons of money for this beautiful event and you've gotta show up wearing patent leather AJ 11s. Are you trying to out flash the wedding itself or did you think you were choosen to kanye west for the night? even if they are the rarest, flyest of kicks, they aint right.

something else on my hater list...if you're out of college (even high school), buy a freakin suit! or atleast get a sport coat and some slacks. also, why are you sagging your pants with your button up shirt? haha that just looks corny.

geez i feel like barney stenson talking about this, soo i'll stop here. but in his words and ron burgundy...."Suit Up!" and "Stay Classy."

ya dig!

I got the hook up son! Two fairly new cds that i suggest to you...

India Arie - Testimony Vol 2, Love & Politics
It's very chill and makes you feel happy. haha.

Prince - lotusflow3r/mplsound/elixer
uh oh, a 3 disc set all about...you know. You know Prince makes that baby making music so nothing is new there. But check out the 3rd disc, Elixer. This cd all about Bria, one of Prince's artist. It comes off on the jazzy, soulful side and of course a mix of Prince's flairy side. It's good listens anyway you look at it. Just make sure you're not around your mom or a boss when listening. Oh, and "Valentina" is an interesting song too. First prince sounds like lil wayne, weird. Then the song is about Salma Hayek. He's basically telling Valentina (Salma's daughter) how hot Salma is and that she needs to tell her mom to holler at him. hahaha. Anyways i know Prince isnt something you'd normally check out, but that Elixer is worth it.

reduce, reuse, recycle

for awhile now ape and i have been trying to figure out ways to conserve or try and not waste things around the house. first off, energy is a big thing, especially when the electricity bill comes in. luckily we haven't had to use the heater for the past month and a half, because for some reason our unit stays at a comfortable temp, thanks neighbors if you're blasting our heaters. that's a big help. also, I've unplugged electronics from the wall that aren't being used all the time, like the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Turning off our iMac and macbook (if plugged into the wall) at night when not in use helps out too. I took a look at the electric bill this month at the rate dipped $8, just for unplugging and turning off electronics!

we also got back into the Brita seen. ape and i have a couple nalgene bottles already but used them at the office using their filtered water. at home, we'd drink deer park. we fianlly did the math and found that though the filters cost more than 24-packs of water, we drink about 3 24-packs in the amount of time we would have to change a filter. we'll probably drink more now that we're in the gym more often. at Target you can get a Brita on sale and they're offering a nalgene bottle for a penny with the purchase. after shipping it's $4.21. you can choose between 3 different sizes. not bad!

and lastly we're using those reusable bags at the grocery store. we've had the bags for awhile now but haven't used them regularly. after being fed up that our plastic bag holder was overflowing we decided that we have to force ourselves to use the reusable bags. plus, they hold more and they're easier to carry. i've also heard that local governments in the area are trying to pass legistlation to start charging customers at grocery stores 5 cents per plastic bag.

we're doing our part, it's not much but every little bit countts.

food friday!

nothing new this week so i'll throw it back to a couple weeks ago. Ape made Saffron Chicken with parsley.

I think this is the recipe...
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 onion, cut in lengthwise slivers
1 T olive oil
1 tsp. butter (optional)
pinch saffron (about 1/4 tsp.)
1/2 cup chicken stock
1 T fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley

Use a heavy pan which is not too large and has a tight-fitting lid. Trim all visible fat and tendons from chicken breasts and cut in 1/2 strips on the diagonal. Brown chicken well in olive oil (and butter if using). Remove chicken from pan, add onion, and brown over very low heat until edges of onion pieces are turning golden. Add chicken back to pan. Heat chicken stock, add saffron, and pour over chicken. Simmer on very low heat with pan covered 30-45 minutes. Add chopped parsley, lemon juice, and a tiny bit of additional water if needed, and simmer 15 minutes more. Serve with brown rice.

Overall the dish was very good. The silky lemony buttery sauce was enough to drool over. WE totally killed it. I don't think we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. haha

Deal of the day....

From what i've read here and there. if you don't have much space and don't want an s-load of speakers around your family room, a simple sound bar & sub woofer is all you need to amplify your home movie watching experience. But still these things are around $500. On slickdeals.net you can find a Yamaha for $200!

If you're looking for sound quality that will make Twilight or Slumdog at home seem like you're hearing it in the theater, make a move for this.
