Friday Food Day!

yesterday i was totally not in the mood cook. but ape txt'ed me asking if i found any yummie recipes for the chicken breast we had defrosted. so i looked up a recipe for stuffed chicken. so i found a parmesan-stuffed chicken breast on yahoo.com. i didnt totally follow the recipe to a T. i added some ham and swiss, cordon bleu style. and emeril's essence for alittle kick.

w/ Bearnaise sauce

for the 1st time making this, it totally surprised me. it was full of flavor. the lemon zest had a really good kick. i did burn some some of the ham and the chicken was a tad dry on the outside, but still moist on the inside. this happened because i forgot to subtract some cooking time because i only made half of what the recipe called for. but, def. gonna make it again, more healthy, minus the wannabe cordon bleu ingerdents.

weekend rewind

Our weekend started on Thursday after work. Ape and I headed down to Richmond for V-day dinner at Avenue 805 with her fam. I wasn't expecting much from this quiet off the strip restaurant. Our ravioli appetizer didn't help. Too much pasta, not enough filling. But all of our entrees made of for it. I ordered the Italian meatloaf, wtf right? But it was really good; it was layered with prosciutto, pepperoni and salami and topped with marinara. The mash and veggies were bangin' too.

Fri., I went to hit some balls with FIL. I sucked not to mention gloveless. It hurt so bad hitting balls in the cold. Thus I got a blister. After we got ape and met up the rest of the fam for lunch. cheese steaks, grool. Did a Costco run after and tried to get FIL to look at other SUVs besides the Highlander as their next vehicle. Checked out the Tribeca and CX-9.

Friday night after heading to VA beach we had dinner with my rents. I wanted to eat at Yukai Buffet but my dad was opposed. So we went to LongHorn Steakhouse. Everything was aight. Medium rare isn't in their vocab though; my prime rib came out well. Boo. But it tasted delish and the sides, and salads were great. After we stopped by Krispy Kreme for some Hot n Fresh doughnuts.

Sat we checked out a highlander at checkered flag for FIL, and then went back home and napped. For dinner ape and I finally went to Yukai. The sushi was small but good. The non-sushi foods like the Chinese, and Korean food were really good. Udon soup was off the hook. My god-bro ruined the experience by telling me the restrooms were horrific. You know... after dinner we when to Markie's and Ronnie's going away house party. We had a great time and it was good to see everyone. We partied till the morning...

Sun we headed back up to nova. Michelle threw Rey a "surprise" b-day at Top Golf. My shots got 100% better and ape was striking the ball pretty well too. Again we ate a ton of not so good for us food. When we got home at 7, I felt like crashing but I got myself off the couch and went to the gym with ape. We really needed to go to the gym esp. after eating out for the past 4 days.

this weekend i got to see my aunt who is fighting cancer. we thought the worst was past us but they recently found a set of tumors in her brain. now aside for the chemo that she had for her breast cancer, she now has to have chemo treatment for cancer that has spread to her brain. she also had a total knee replacement that she's rehabbing for. now reading this you probably have a mental picture of a weak, unhealthy person that probably didn't take care of herself too well in the past. but my aunt is a strong, passionate, uplifting, and warm woman. she's probably one of the most inspirational people that i've ever meet. she's a very caring woman that always did her best to give her family nothing less than everything they wanted, but at the same time showing them that things don't just magically appear. she's always there for her friends, to laugh, to cheer, and to listen. she literally gives her all and lives life to the fullest.

so it's sad for me to hear about all of these recent struggles that have bring her down. but when i see her, it takes away my sadness and replaced with joy and hope. she never shows signs that she's hurting when i know every minute painful. and she always talks about the progess that she's making, no matter how big or little. she's soo strong for putting soo much effort into getting better.

now all i wish is that all of our prayers are answered. especially when a person like this who hasn't done anything wrong, lived the way of the lord, and has been there for others even when their chips are down. for her family, especially my best friend and his brother and sister, i feel for them soo much. they are strong, wise, independent and optimistc just like their mom. i see that they are hurt and i know that if they could do anything to take the cancer away they could.

this isn't over and i know that auntie will beat the hell out this cancer and defeat it for good. i know this, because anything less would be fall way short of auntie's standards. and aunite doesn't settle for less. so with that we continue to pray and know that we are with you every step of the way.

tackle box

we went on saturday after picking up Cathy who was visiting from boston. i heard they place had the best $13 meal in dc. you get one entree with two sides for $13. i got fried catfish, mac n cheese, and sweet potato fries. it wasn't bad at all. ate mae also ordered for the whole table, calamari, clams, lobster roll and clam chowder. everything fried passed, crispy, well seasoned and fresh. the clam chowder was bland, downer. the lobster roll was aight, Coastal Flats has a better one. I need to try a real one in Boston. i couldn't stop eating the fries, maybe since i cooked my own crusted red pepper and rosemary fries earlier that week.

the decor had a nice feel, imagine being at a regular old pier that has a restaurant on it, now picture that in the heart of Georgetown. i know right.

all in all. skip it unless you're dying for something fried and only have $13. yes, i was craving fried fish! but i would rather spent the $13 at Good Stuff Eatery.

what they said...

donuts to the next level?

ape and i fianlly had fractured prune donuts this weekend. we checked out the location in ffx/oakton/vienna. 1. i hate the PAN-AM shopping center. ever since going there in college for weekly art supplies i've hated it. m-fing impatient people that can't wait for people that are backing out of parking spots, people wanting to get ran over, and just a poor layout.
so i don't know if it was this franchise or all of them are like this but this one had bubble tea? signage was super ghetto and customer service was typical mcdonalds style (but he did hook it up with one extra doughnut). down down downers.
i ordered a banana nut bread doughnut and ape had the OC Sand and Hawaiian. the donuts were good but not a earth shattering as everyone on the radio, reviews, and blogs say they are. i'd prefer a good ole glazed krispy kreme donut over this anyday. but since KK is all the way on route 1, these will do. but i don't think donuts have to be this complex or cost this much. it's just a donut. i guess i just can't appreciate it as much as the next.
